Huggins denies knowledge of Jose Perez decision date

Yesterday, Adam Zagoria said the decision for Jose Perez’s appeal is expected by Wednesday, Jan. 11., while West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins is just waiting to hear back from the NCAA.

Zagoria said on ZagsBlog, “an NCAA appeal decision for West Virginia guard Jose Perez is expected by Jan. 11”

On Friday, ahead of West Virginia’s game against No. 3 Kansas, Huggins said he is unaware of when the decision for Perez’s appeal will take place.

“I have absolutely no idea. [The NCAA has] never given us [a date],” Huggins said on Friday. “I don’t think it’s going to be in the next few days.”

West Virginia’s initial waiver for Perez got denied last month. The two-time transfer, Perez came to West Virginia from Manhattan after his head coach Steve Masiello was fired days before the beginning of the 2022-2023 basketball season.

Perez was granted an extra year of eligibility in the NCAA’s first decision, but West Virginia appealed the decision. Perez is a 6-foot-5 guard, who averaged 18.9 points per game last season for Manhattan.
