Erik Stevenson apologizes for actions during Oklahoma State game

West Virginia guard opened his media availability on Friday ahead of West Virginia’s game against No. 3 Kansas by apologizing for his actions against Kanas State and Oklahoma State.

Against the Cowboys on Monday, Stevenson picked up a technical foul right after he hit a go-ahead three-pointer. Soon thereafter, Stevenson would be whistled for another foul — his fifth — and he would then foul out.

“I know my actions did not represent this program the way it should be, this coaching staff, this fanbase and my teammates. I just want apologize for that,” Stevenson said. “I know how serious it is.”

Stevenson also was whistled for a technical foul in West Virginia’s first conference game of the year against Kansas State. Stevenson would also foul out of that game, a game in which the Mountaineers would lose in overtime.

“I know that my actions not technically cost us the game but it prevented me staying in the game which essentially could’ve helped us win both those ballgames,” Stevenson said of the Kansas State and Oklahoma State games. “Those are things that I just don’t do on a regular basis. I know it doesn’t look good on my part.”

Stevenson added he is putting it in the past and wants the fanbase to know how he feels for his performance in those games.

“I just wanted to clarify my apologies for those actions especially to this fanbase and Coach [Huggins],” Stevenson said. “I just want to apologize and I’d like to move on from it and put it in the past.”
