Emmitt Matthews to miss second consecutive game against Stony Brook

For the second time in as many games, West Virginia will be without fifth-year forward Emmitt Matthews Jr due to a left knee injury.

Matthews suffered the injury in the opening minute of WVU’s Dec. 10 game against UAB. He would finish the game, but said he was not commenting on his injury after the game. Matthews then missed last Sunday’s game against Buffalo and will miss Thursday’s game against Stony Brook.

On Wednesday, West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins said he hopes to get Matthews back before Big 12 play, which begins on Dec. 31, against Kansas State.

Matthews is averaging 10.8 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game in his 10 games played this year.
