West Virginia set to face Purdue in Thanksgiving hoops action

West Virginia is in Portland, Oregon, set to face Purdue in their opening matchup of the Phil Knight Legacy Tournament.

West Virginia (4-0) is off to an undefeated start, beating their opponents by an average of about 24 points per game. The Mountaineers are led by Erik Stevenson, who is averaging 14.0 points per game, and Tre Mitchell, who is averaging 13.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. The Mountaineers are turning the ball over at an alarming rate, almost 12 times per game. The Mountaineers’ defense is forcing almost 19 turnovers per game, while scoring an average of almost 23 points off those turnovers.

Purdue (3-0) is coming off a 75-70 win over Marquette, in which the Boilermakers were led by Zach Edey and Braden Smith. Edey, stands at 7-foot-4, and scored 20 points, along with 13 rebounds in the win. Smith also had 20 points in the win. In 33 minutes of play, Edey was only charged with one foul. If West Virginia wants to have a chance to win they have to get Edey in foul trouble and keep him off the floor.
