Prior to West Virginia’s game against No. 15 Kansas State, Preseason All-Big 12 cornerback Charles Woods announced he would be entering the transfer portal via his Instagram story.
Woods had played in only four game for the Mountaineers this season, after injuring his ankle week one against Pitt.
Woods’ statement said, “Thank you WVU.” Woods would add, “commitment coming soon,” implying he is entering the transfer portal.
Following the game, West Virginia head coach Neal Brown spoke on Woods’ departure.
“Charles Woods, they said he put something on social media,” Brown said. “I’ve seen him like twice in two weeks.”
Brown would go on to say he tries to defend and protect his players, but said Woods had made his decision and was no longer present.
“I try to protect these guys, but he shut it down,” Brown said.
Woods will have one year of eligibility remaining. He played two seasons at Illinois State, before spending the last two seasons at West Virginia. Woods, has played in only four games this season.
