On Thursday morning, it was announced that Manhattan transfer guard Jose Perez would officially be joining the 2022-2023 WVU men’s basketball team.
Perez announced he would be committing to West Virginia back in late October, but the 6-foot-5 guard has now officially enrolled at the university.
“Jose (Perez) certainly gives us more fire power for our team,” head coach Bob Huggins said on the senior guard. “He’s a guy who can score the ball at different levels. He shoots the ball well, he drives it well, and he scores it close. He’s another experienced guy who has played a lot of basketball.”
Perez spent his first two seasons at Gardner-Webb in the Big South Conference, where he averaged 15.2 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game in 2019.
After his time at Gardner-Webb, Perez moved up to the Big East Conference, where he played for the Marquette Golden Eagles in 2020-2021.
Perez’s most recent team was the Manhattan Jaspers in the MAAC. Last season, Perez led the Jaspers in scoring with 18.9 points per game and earned first-team MAAC recognition.
While Perez has enrolled, his eligibility for when he can join the team on the court has not been determined yet.
