Former WVU basketball star Jevon Carter is entering his fifth season in the NBA, and has found success with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Carter, the former fan favorite in Morgantown, started last season with the Brooklyn Nets, but landed more playing time when he was traded to Milwaukee mid-season.
In 2021-2022, Carter averaged 5.6 points per game in the 20 games he played for the Bucks before making an appearance in the NBA Playoffs for the second time in his young career.
Carter earned time as a backup point guard, and his defensive presence helped him bond with other Bucks guards such as Jrue Holiday and George Hill, who are both historically good defenders in the backcourt.
Since the 2022-2023 NBA campaign has started, the Bucks have been the team to beat, starting the season 9-0 before finally picking up their first loss at the Atlanta Hawks on Monday.
The Bucks have been doing this without the efforts of star shooting guard Kris Middleton, who has been rehabbing from a wrist injury.
Because of Middleton’s injury, Carter has been thrusted into the starting lineup in every game thus far for the flaming hot Bucks.
Through 10 games, Carter is averaging 5.3 points, 1.9 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game.
Carter’s best game so far came on Saturday, November 5th against the Oklahoma City Thunder. In a 108-94 victory, Carter scored 18 points while shooting 5-for-9 from three-point range. Carter also added a steal, a block, and two assists in his 30 minutes of action.
The Bucks will look to stay hot and remain atop the Eastern Conference behind two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. When Middleton returns, the Bucks will be even more equipped to win, but Carter’s services might be needed off the bench.
It’s clear that not starting doesn’t bother Carter, as he has been a spark off the bench for both the Phoenix Suns and now the Milwaukee Bucks in his career.
