Former Mountaineer Alek Manoah named Cy Young Finalist

Former Mountaineer and current Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Alek Manoah could be in line for some hardware. The right-handed pitcher has been announced as a finalist for the American League Cy Young Award, given to the best pitcher in each league each season.

Manoah this season was 16-7 for the Blue Jays, with a 2.24 ERA in 196.2 innings pitched. This season was Manoah’s first full season in the big leagues, and he did not disappoint, striking out 8.2 batters per 9 innings, while also starting 31 games and being named an American League All Star.

Manoah was able to clinch a playoff spot for the Blue jays, before they lost to the Seattle Mariners in the wild card round.

The other finalists include Dylan Cease of the Chicago White Sox and Justin Verlander of the Houston Astros.
