GAME THREAD: West Virginia vs Texas Tech

West Virginia and Texas Tech are set to kickoff from Lubbock, Texas, at 3 p.m. The Mountaineers are coming in having beaten Baylor 43-40 last Thursday, while the Red Raiders re coming off a bye week. Both teams are 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the Big 12. West Virginia has not beaten Texas Tech since 2018, and the Mountaineers have not a road game in the Big 12 since beating Kansas in the final game of 2021.

PREGAME: According to Blue Gold News, Charles Woods, CJ Donaldson, and Jordan White were all dressed and warming up. Offensive lineman James Gmiter is also not on the field for warmups according to Blue Gold News.

James Gmiter is officially out, with Jordan White starting at left guard. Ja’Quay Hubbard to start at right tackle. Charles Woods is set to start, but will be limited. CJ Donaldson is also active.

Texas Tech starting right tackle Monroe Mills got hurt at practice this week and will not start this week.

West Virginia wins the toss and defers to the second half.

Texas Tech took just eight plays to go 75 yards and score a touchdown on a 19-yard rush by Tahj Brooks. Texas Tech converted on a 4th and 5, and Aubrey Burks had a chance at an interception on the drive.

Texas Tech starts the game 4/4 on fourth down, and went 80 yards on 16 plays in just 3:44. The Mountaineers have struggled to tackle and Texas Tech is getting multiple yards after contact.

Casey Legg kicks a 38-yard field goal to get West Virginia on the board. The Mountaineers had a 3rd and 2, but a false start from Wyatt Milum backed up the Mountaineers.

WVU has multiple opportunities to get off the field or even get a turnover, but is unable to do so. A holding on Texas Tech negated a first down, and WVU’s defense holds on to only allow a 46-yard field goal.

Texas Tech started the game 6 for 6 on fourth down, but the Mountaineers finally get a fourth down stop and takeover inside their own territory.

Third Quarter

After Bryce Ford-Wheaton gets the ball taken from him for an interception, Texas Tech completes a 55-yard touchdown where almost nobody touches Xavier White.

Texas Tech drives 91 yards on 12 plays in just 3:07. Texas Tech now has 416 total yards of offense and lead by four scores.

Bryce Ford-Wheaton hauls in a 28-yard score, and the Mountaineers have finally scored for the first time since the first quarter. Mountaineers went 75 yards on six plays, in just 1:51.
