On Wednesday night, the West Virginia men’s soccer team played James Madison to a 1-1 draw in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
WVU had plenty of chances to win the in-conference match, as the Mountaineers registered 11 shots on the night, with six of them getting on net.
The Mountaineers attacked the Dukes in the first half, getting five of their 11 shots off before heading to the locker room.
Four of those five first half shots came in the first 18 minutes, but James Madison keeper Sebastian Conlon stood tall, saving all four shots.
West Virginia finally broke through and drew first blood in the 35th minute when Ryan Crooks scored a goal inside the box, right in front of the net after a defensive breakdown from James Madison.
The Mountaineers took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but not capitalizing in the first 18 minutes would prove to be a missed opportunity.
In the second half, James Madison came out with a better offensive strategy, as the Dukes got eight shots off compared to their one in the first half.
This offensive resurgence eventually got the Dukes to break through, as Ethan Taylor scored a game-tying goal in the 73rd minute off a nice pass in front by Cameron Arnold.
The Taylor goal tied the game at 1-1, and the match would end by that score.
With the draw, the Mountaineers move to 4-6-4 on the season while James Madison advances to 5-6-2.
West Virginia will be back in action on Sunday for its final home game of the season against Sun Belt opponent Georgia State.
The match against Georgia State will be senior night for West Virginia, as the Mountaineers and Panthers will kick off at 7 p.m.
