The 2022-2023 NBA season opened on Tuesday night, with a game between the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers.
On the end of the bench for the Celtics was a new face for Boston, but a familiar face for Mountaineer fans in Joe Mazzulla. Mazzulla who played at West Virginia and was on the Mountaineers’ 2010 Final Four team then coached at Fairmont State from 2017-2019.
The former Mountaineer led the Celtics to a 126-117 win on Tuesday and the Celtics players then showered Mazzulla with water bottles after the game.
“These guys have been through a lot together, and they’re great players. So it’s just a matter of working together. So I appreciate their trust and buy-in, but they come up with a lot of good stuff as well and we kind of just figure it out,” Mazzulla said after the game.
Boston’s next game will be on Oct. 21 against the Miami Heat.
