Mathis and Legg pick up weekly Big 12 honors

West Virginia’s Casey Legg and Tony Mathis were each awarded weekly Big 12 honors for their performance against Baylor on Thursday.

Kicker Casey Legg received attention after kicking a game-winning 22-yard field goal against Baylor on Thursday. The redshirt-junior was named the Big 12 Co-Special Teams Player of the Week, following a performance which included two made field goals and five made extra points. On the season, Legg is 10 for 10 on field goals and 24 for 24 on extra-point attempts.

Legg shared the weekly award with Oklahoma State kicker Tanner Brown.

Running back Tony Mathis was named the Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Week after he rushed for a career-high 163 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. On the season, Mathis has found the end zone five times on the ground.

Mathis shared the award with TCU’s Max Duggan.

The Mountaineers will be back in action on Saturday when they face Texas Tech at 3 p.m.
