West Virginia (5-4-6, 2-1-3) was back at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon and picked up their second conference win over Baylor (4-8-2, 2-4) in a convincing 3-1 fashion.
The Mountaineer defense only allowed five shots all match, with only two being on target. Meanwhile, the West Virginia offense was able to generate 16 shots, with six being on target.
Lauren Segalla was the player of the match, picking up her team leading third goal of the season, and an assist.
The Bears were able to strike early, on their first shot attempt of the game in the 12th minute, Ashley Merrill strike beat Mountaineers keeper Kayza Massey to put Baylor up 1-0.
Their lead wouldn’t last for long, as it would only take West Virginia 14 minutes to pull the game even on a AJ Rodiguez strike on a pass from Lauren Segalla that got past Baylor goalie Lauren Traywick.
The teams would go into the half tied, but the Mountaineers were able to take full control of the match in the second half. In the 53rd minute the Mountaineers would take their first lead of the match, when Lauren Segalla slotted a shot into the back of the net off of an assist from Dilary Heredia-Beltran, which was her team leading sixth assist of the season.
West Virginia would put the game away in the 81st minute, when Annika Leslie picked up her first goal of the season to increase the Mountaineers lead to two.
West Virginia will head on the road for their next match, going to Stillwater, Oklahoma to take on Oklahoma State at 8 p.m. on Thursday.
