The West Virginia Mountaineers will welcome No. 22 Texas to Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Thursday to begin a two-match homestand, with kickoff set for 5 p.m.
West Virginia (4-3-6, 1-0-3) faced No. 10 TCU their last time out in Fort Worth, earning a 1-1 draw to stay unbeaten in conference play. Kayza Massey was excellent once again, allowing just one goal, while making seven saves. The Mountaineers were also helped by a TCU own goal, where senior forward Lauren Segalla lifted a ball into the box and a deflection by TCU saw the ball go into the back of their own net.
Kayza Massey leads the Big 12 in shutouts with six, and is second in the league in save percentage (.825), as well as third in goals against average (.769).
Texas (10-1-3, 4-0-1), has won their last four matches and hasn’t conceded a goal since September 22nd in a 1-1 draw to TCU. Their last time out saw them win 2-0 against Kansas. The player to watch for is sophomore forward Trinity Byars, who has 11 goals and 9 assists on the season, including 2 assists in their last match.
West Virginia holds a 9-3-2 advantage all time over the Longhorns, but will be looking for revenge for last season, when the Longhorns knocked the Mountaineers out of the Big 12 tournament in penalty kicks after the teams were tied for two overtimes.
