McCabe places first, sets course record in Louisville

On Saturday, Ceili McCabe of the WVU cross country team placed first in the women’s 5k race at the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic in Louisville, Kentucky.

McCabe, a redshirt junior, not only won the race, but set a course record at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park in Louisville with a time of 16:23.9.

“Individually speaking, anytime a team has the individual winner who sets an all-time course record, it’s a good day,” WVU head coach Sean Cleary said after the race.

McCabe continues to put her name amongst the top competitors in the nation, as last season, she finished fourth in the Big 12 Championship and represented WVU in the NCAA Championships, placing 29th overall.

On the team level, WVU was one of 44 teams competing in the women’s 5k race in Louisville, and the Mountaineers placed second overall.
