West Virginia (4-3-4, 1-0-1) is set to host Kansas (7-5, 0-2)) for their Big 12 home opener at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Friday at 7:00.
The Mountaineers are coming off their first conference win against Iowa State where 5th year senior Lauren Segalla scored her first two goals of the season in the 2-0 win, the Mountaineers sixth shutout of the season. Sophomore forward Dilary Heredia-Beltran also recorded two more assists, to increase her team leading four assists on the season.
Lauren Segalla was named the WVU student-athlete of the week for her performance against the Cyclones, which was her second career brace.
Kansas is looking for their first conference win, as they lost their first two Big 12 games to Oklahoma State and TCU while being shutout in both.
This will be the 13th all-time match-up between the Jayhawks and Mountaineers, with West Virginia holding a 8-3-1 record over them in the matches. Kansas defeated the Mountaineers last season, and are looking to win two straight against them for the first time ever.
The players to watch for Kansas are forward Shira Elinav, who has five goals on the season, and forward Ryan Childers, who has four goals and eleven points on the season.
For the Mountaineers, goalie Kayza Massey leads the Big 12 in shutouts with six, and is second in the conference in save percentage at .844.
