Notable Mountaineers in the NFL Week Three

Geno Smith, QB, Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks ran a reserved offense through the first two weeks of the season but opened up the playbook in week three, and the difference was noticeable. In weeks one and two, Smith threw for 195 and 197 yards. However, the former Mountaineers aired it this week, passing for 325 yards. He also tacked on another two touchdowns, which brings his total on the season to four.

With Seattle hosting the Falcons this Sunday, Smith started fast, finding a wide-open Will Dissly in the middle of Atlanta’s defense.

Smith threw his second touchdown of the day to DK Metcalf, who made a miraculous play on the ball, creating separation at the last minute.

Unfortunately, Seattle’s effort was not enough to pull out the victory as an interception on the final drive effectively ended the game. While the Seahawks suffered a loss, Smith kept his team in the game until the end and proved he is a viable starting quarterback through three weeks in the NFL.

Rasul Douglas, CB, Green Bay Packers

Douglas has picked up where he left off last season, as one of the best emerging cornerbacks in the game. His play in three games has been nothing short of phenomenal. This Sunday, he was all over the field, bringing down eight Buccaneers, a personal high on the season. In addition, Douglas has given up 48 receiving yards on 89 coverage snaps and 12 targets. According to Pro Football Focus, these astounding numbers make him the second-best cover cornerback in the NFL.

As the Packers host a Patriots team likely without their starting quarterback Sunday, Douglas and the Green Bay defense will look to take full advantage of Brian Hoyer. With Douglas playing at such a high level, Mountaineers fans eager to follow former West Virginia standouts in the NFL should tune in to Packers games on Sunday afternoons.
