The WVU men’s soccer team will be heading 278 miles west of Morgantown to face the No. 24 Dayton Flyers.
Despite the Mountaineers starting the season as the #6 ranked team in the country, they have not found themselves on the winning end against other nationally ranked opponents. This year they are 0-2 against ranked teams, and one of those losses came last Saturday against No. 4 Marshall in a 1-0 defeat.
WVU was able to keep The Herd at bay for most of the game, but a late goal from Milo Yosef was just enough to hold off the Mountaineers.
For Dayton, they will be entering this match with an overall record of 6-0-1. Their defense has been a strong point for them up to this point in the season, and they have held their opponents to only four goals and 17 shots on goal. On the offensive side, they average three goals a game and 25 shots per game.
Key players to look out for are Dayton’s Forester Ajago and Andy Sanchez. They both currently lead the team in goals with four and points with 10.
For the Mountaineers, Ryan Crooks and Luke McCormick have been their top contributors. They currently lead the team with two goals, and both have team highs in shots on goal—Crooks with ten and McCormick with three.
Since 2017 WVU has had an all-time record of 3-1 against the Flyers. Their most recent win came last year in Morgantown with a final score of 3-0.
The match will be held on Tuesday at Baujan Field in Dayton, Ohio, and can be viewed on ESPN+.
