DAYTON, OH (Sep. 27, 2022)- It was a fast start for the Dayton Flyers on offense. A perfectly placed cross pass by Joseph Melto Quiah helped set up a goal for Forster Ajago in the 13th minute to give Dayton a 1-0 lead.
The Flyers would strike again only a minute after Dayton’s first goal. Around midfield, Andy Sanchez would pass the ball forward to Basit Umar, and then he would take it the rest of the way and score to give Dayton a 2-0 lead.
For Ajago, this was his 5th goal of the season which is the most on the team, and Umar’s goal would be his first of the year.
The Mountaineers would have a couple of chances to score in the first half but ultimately could not capitalize on them. Besides the four shots and two shots on goal, this is as far as their offense would go.
Dayton’s offense proved far too much for the Mountaineers in the 1st 45 minutes. The Flyers would have a total of nine shots; of those nine, four would be on goal.
Dayton’s offense came out in full force to start the second half. The score of this match would have been blown more wide open if it wasn’t for some impressive saves made by WVU goalkeeper Jackson Lee.
WVU would finally find the back off the net in the 81st minute. There would be a cross pass that would take an awkward bounce off a Mountaineer that would let the ball fall right at the feet of Joseph Biafora, allowing him to put it in the back of the net. This would enable the Mountaineers to inch a little bit closer to taking over the lead.
However, those two 1st half goals by Dayton were enough to hold off the Mountaineers as they would fall 2-1 to the Flyers.
WVU would go on to finish the game with a total of ten shots and six on goal. For Dayton, they would ultimately outshoot the Mountaineers and end the night with 16 shots and eight on goal. There would be plenty of penalties on both sides. Dayton and WVU would combine for 27 fouls and four yellow cards.
After this match, Dayton would improve to 7-0-1, and WVU would fall to 2-6-1.
