West Virginia (4-3-4) headed to Ames, Iowa for their second conference game, both on the road for a match-up with Iowa State (3-5-3), winning 2-0.
The story of the match was once again the Mountaineer defense, earning their sixth shutout of the season already, with Kayza Massey stopping all three shots she saw on target.
Offensively, West Virginia started off the match aggressive, getting three shots off in the first six minutes, with two being on target. Those would be the biggest chances the Mountaineer offense got until the 40th minute when Maddie Moreau put one towards the bottom corner of the net, but her shot was also saved.
At the half, West Virginia had eight shots, with three on target, compared to four shots, with two on target for the Cyclones.
The scoring would finally be opened in the 65th minute, when last season’s leading goal-scorer Lauren Segalla got her first goal of the season on a back-heel tap on a pass from Dilary Heredia-Beltran, who earned her third and fourth assists of the season in the match.
It would only take seven minutes for West Virginia to strike again, when Heredia-Beltran took the ball down the wing and put a cross into the box that found the head of Segalla who put it past the diving Jordan Silkowitz.
The end of match stats showed West Virginia with 14 shots, and eight on target, compared to nine shots with only three on target for Iowa State. West Virginia also earned nine corners to three for Iowa State.
The Mountaineers will return home for their first conference home match against Kansas this Friday at 7 p.m.
