Former Mountaineer Joe Mazzulla expected to become interim Boston Celtics head coach

Former Mountaineer Joe Mazzulla is set to become the interim head coach for the Boston Celtics this season.

Adrian Wojnarowski said on Twitter, “Assistant coach Joe Mazzulla is likely to become Boston’s interim coach for the season, sources tell ESPN.”

This news comes on the heels that current Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka is likely facing a season-long suspension due to him having a consensual relationship with a female staff member.

Mazzulla attended WVU from 2006-2011, and was a key member of West Virginia’s 2009 Final Four team. Mazzulla has been an assistant coach for the Celtics since 2019, after being the head coach at Fairmont State from 2017-2019.

This past season, the Boston Celtics made it to the NBA Finals, losing to the Golden State Warriors.
