The Mountaineers seem to finally have gotten a much needed break in their schedule. West Virginia will play host to FCS school Towson on Saturday at 1 p.m. as the Mountaineers will look to get their first win of the year.
Ashley O’Brien: For the first time since 1979, West Virginia is 0-2. The rose colored glasses fans will tell you this team has ten more wins left in them this season. The FPI will tell you it’s this one game, the Towson game. With Charles Woods out for the defense, the older players on defense will need to step up and lead this team to a defensive win. Look for the offense to show up and be prepared for a few head-shaking mistakes from the defense as they regain their confidence from last week’s OT loss. Ultimately, the Mountaineers get their first win of the season.

Wesley Shoemaker: Wow. Did I think West Virginia would lose a game before playing Kansas, yes. Did I think they would be 0-2 and be on the heels of giving up 55 points to Kansas, no. The Mountaineers have a get right game and they will have to get right in a lot of ways. It all starts up front on the defense. Dante Stills and company need to figure themselves out as they made almost zero impact against Kansas. I am excited to see how younger guys in the secondary play, and hopefully playing an FCS school such as Towson can give them some confidence moving forward. I expect this West Virginia offense to not miss a beat from the last two weeks. JT Daniels has played really well and hopefully the defense builds confidence heading into a huge rivalry game. Mountaineers dominate Towson from the jump and ease some minds going forward.

Aaron Parker: After a heartbreaking loss to Kansas, I don’t see any way the Mountaineers let Towson hang around. I think the offense will continue to succeed like they have been, and I think the connection between JT Daniels and Bryce Ford-Wheaton will continue to work for multiple touchdowns. I do think Towson will find the end zone once, but I think the defensive front will have their way with the Tigers.

Jenks O’Donovan: After losing back-to-back matchups to Pittsburgh and Kansas, this is the game West Virginia desperately needs to win to rejuvenate their season. JT Daniels throws for over 250 yards and three touchdowns in the first half and is on the bench when the third quarter kicks off. However, it is the defense that makes the statement in this game. Dante Stills has four sacks on the day, only allowing the Tigers’ offense to score a field goal. The Mountaineers earn their first win of the season and build momentum before heading to Blacksburg.

Rachel Libert: With West Virginia still yet to get a win, Neal Brown’s team needs to do something big against Towson. JT Daniels and Bryce Ford-Wheaton have led the Mountaineers’ offense against Pitt and Kansas, and I think they will continue their connection on Saturday. Even though Daniels has been a highlight of the season so far, the Tigers also have a talented quarterback, Tyrrell Pigrome. If West Virginia’s defense can step it up this week and put some pressure on Pigrome, I think the Mountaineers will come out with their first win of the season.

Tyler Prusina: After two straight tough losses for the Mountaineers I’m expecting the offense and defense to come out and play hard. I feel that this will be a game where we see this WVU football team the most comfortable. We need to improve on our past mistakes and not look down a pound this Towson football team. I think if we come ready to play with the right mindset WVU can run away with this game.

Matt Natriello: West Virginia is 0-2 for the first time since 1979 but they finally get a break in their schedule as FCS Towson comes to town as hopefully a get right game for the Mountaineers. The offense should have no trouble putting up points, but can the defense show improvements to put confidence back in the fan base?
