After a two-game trip to Alabama ended in a draw and a victory over opponents both ranked in the top 25, West Virginia’s defensive stars earned Big 12 weekly awards.
On Tuesday it was announced West Virginia goalkeeper Kayza Massey was named the Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week, while West Virginia defenseman Jordan Brewster earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week.
Massey, was able to hold both No. 11 Auburn and No. 25 Samford scoreless, while accounting for a combined 11 saves in those two matches. Massey also tied her career-high with seven of those saves coming against Auburn.
Brewster scored the lone goal of the week for the Mountaineers, as she scored a free kick in the final minute against Samford to break their 19-match unbeaten streak.
Massey and Brewster will lead the Mountaineers into their next match on Thursday against Kansas.
