With the return of the Backyard Brawl this season, one of the most talked about topics is the uniforms. Uniforms are an iconic part of college sports, with many showcasing cultural aspects of the region where a school is located. The uniforms the West Virginia Mountaineers unveiled for the matchup are exactly that. The “Country Roads Uniform” plays tribute to the many traditions and cultural aspects of the state of West Virginia.
The helmet, jersey and pants are white with gold and blue trimming. In the background of the blue striping of the pants, jersey sleeves, numbers and helmet features a road map of Interstate 79, and the many country roads found throughout the state. The helmet features the flying WV placed within the outline of the state of West Virginia. The words Cue Country Roads are placed in large lettering on the neck of the jersey in recognition of one of the best traditions in college sports. The uniforms are a one game special edition uniform designed specifically for the return of the Brawl.
Pitt will stay with their traditional blue jerseys, gold pants and gold helmets. The difference is the helmet will be chrome, with the Pitt lettering and blue face masks also in chrome.
