As West Virginia men’s soccer enters a new era, the expectations are following suit.
On Monday, it was announced West Virginia men’s soccer team has been selected to finish first in the 2022 Sun Belt Conference coaches preseason poll. The Mountaineers are currently ranked No. 6 in the nation, and enter the Sun Belt Conference after competing in the MAC.
West Virginia is slotted ahead of in-state rival Marshall, and Kentucky who round out the top three.
Last season, WVU made it to the NCAA Quarterfinals, and had the best finish in program history.
In addition, redshirt junior defender Bjarne Thiesen was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Team. Thiesen started 21 matches for WVU in 2021, totaling two goals in 1,980 minutes of action.
