West Virginia women’s basketball will be heading to Cancun this season.
On Friday it was announced the Mountaineers will be apart of the 10-team field that will be competing in the 2022 Women’s Cancun Challenge. The event is set to take place at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya.
The event is set to take place from Nov. 24-26 and there are two divisions for the tournament.
“We are pleased to draw another intriguing mix of teams to the Women’s Cancun Challenge. These matchups are attention-getters, as we feature a competitive environment that teams love to see before the conference schedule begins,” said Sarah Molina, Cancun Challenge director.
The Mountaineers will play two games, as they are in a six-team division consisting of Central Michigan, NC State, Northern Iowa, Tulane, Vanderbilt and West Virginia.
This tournament began in 2005 and will add to West Virginia’s non-conference schedule.
