West Virginia was well-represented among the Big 12 conference Tuesday afternoon, as the Big 12
Baseball Awards were announced.
Two Mountaineers were selected for the First Team All-Big 12. Outfielder Austin Davis and pitcher Trey
Braithwaite were given the honors; Davis leads the team in batting average and Braithwaite is at the top
of the pitching staff in ERA.
McGwire Holbrook was selected to the Second Team All-Big 12, with a .325 batting average and six
homeruns on the season.
Four Mountaineers were named All-Big 12 Honorable Mentions. Ben Hampton, Noah Short, Jacob
Watters, and JJ Wetherholt received the award.
JJ Wetherholt also appeared on the Big 12 All-Freshman Team as a unanimous selection. Wetherholt
earned a .308 batting average and totaled four homeruns.
Chris Sleeper was also selected for the Big 12 All-Freshman Team, with a 3.61 ERA and earning three
wins for the Mountaineers.
The Big 12 Player of the Year was awarded to Texas first baseman Ivan Melendez, who leads the
conference in batting average, homeruns and RBIs.
TCU’s Kirk Saarloos earned Coach of the Year honors.
