McGwire Holbrook has been a force at the plate for the WVU baseball team so far this season, earning him the number eight spot in the NCAA Division I batting average rankings. Holbrook is averaging a .516.
The sophomore from Orlando has seen the plate 31 times so far this season and has 16 hits. He has been a crucial aspect to the Mountaineer’s lineup as a DH.
In the first game of the Cambria College Classic, Holbrook went 3-3 at the plate with two RBIs and a homerun to rally past the University of Minnesota Gophers. In the final game of the tournament, Holbrook hit a solo homerun against Michigan State.
Holbrook also has an impressive on base percentage of .559, putting him in the top 50 of NCAA Division I players.
During his freshman season, Holbrook made eight starts and hit .267. His season was cut short in April due to injury, but his recovery has made a big impact for the Mountaineers.
WVU takes on Ohio State in a double header at Monongalia County Ballpark on March 11, where Holbrook looks to lead the team in his efforts at the plate.
