Morgantown, W. Va. – Normalcy has returned to Morgantown and the next football game is finally just days away. Coach Brown returned to his weekly press conference with Homecoming week in full swing, and the Longhorns making their visit just days away.
From the start, Coach Brown was excited about his team’s Homecoming matchup as they came off of a productive bye week. Now the Mountaineers take on the Texas Longhorns in a nationally televised matchup Saturday afternoon.
“It’s going to be a great atmosphere. It’s Stripe the Stadium, I’m looking forward to seeing that,” Brown said. “We’re going to need our crowd and we’re going to need our students.”
Brown knows that his visiting opponents will boast a huge challenge for the Mountaineers, but also points out that one of the keys to the good guys winning is the one-on-one battles. The head coach spoke highly of his opponent pointing out how the team has played several tough opponents already this season and commenting on the size of the defensive line.
“I can’t tell a difference between their ones and their twos on defense . . . they play a bunch of different guys. A lot of really talented guys.”
The Longhorns coming to Morgantown has been a topic of conversation since about 2:00pm November 4, 2018; the day after the Mountaineers upset the Longhorns in Austin. Saturday’s matchup has been circled on many calendars around West Virginia and Mountaineer Nation, with almost a year’s worth of a hand gesture that many feel hasn’t gotten old year, Will Grier included.
Brown was asked about the fans’ opinion of the pending game and whether last season’s win puts any stars near this year’s matchup. For Brown, every game in October, and in the Big 12 in general, have weight and merit; not just the Texas game. Brown knows the game is going to be a tough contest, but points out that West Virginia’s schedule throughout October is going to be tough. His team is focused first on Texas, then will move onto the next conference opponent, regardless of the nostalgia fans feel about last season’s game.
The Mountaineers take on the Texas Longhorns at 3:30 Saturday in Morgantown. The game is televised on a national level on ABC.
