MORGANTOWN, W.Va–Will Grier was selected by the Carolina Panthers with the 100th pick in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
The former Mountaineer standout was the first WVU player off the board.
The 6-foot-2, 223-pound quarterback finished fourth in this year’s Heisman voting behind Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray, Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins.
In his senior season with the Mountaineers, Grier completed 266-of-397 passes for 3,864 yards and 37 touchdowns in 11 games. He threw just eight interceptions.
Last season the Charlotte, N.C. native missed the lowest percentage (13.2%) of passes on throws up to 20 yards.
Grier was nominated for many accolades last season including being named a Maxwell Award Finalist, a Manning Award Finalist, a Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Top 5 Finalist and a Davey O’Brien Award Semifinalist. He won the Senior CLASS Award, honoring the attributes of senior student-athletes in community, classroom, character and competition.
Grier was named to the All-Big 12 Conference Second Team (AP, Coaches, Phil Steele) and to the All-America Fourth Team (Athlon Sports).
