Gov. Morrisey and Attorney General JB McCuskey announce actions against NCAA Selection Committee

Gov. Patrick Morrisey and Attorney General JB McCuskey held a press conference Monday afternoon to announce their actions against the NCAA Selection Committee to receive answers regarding WVU’s denial from the NCAA Tournament.

The Mountaineers were snubbed a spot in the NCAA Tournament yesterday evening after being seeded in 111 of 111 bracketology reports regarding the tournament with a resume of six Quad 1 wins and no Quad 3 and 4 losses.

North Carolina’s athletic director serves as a chairperson on the selection committee, and most believe there was bias included in the decision Sunday evening.

“I think that people deserve to be educated about not just all the criteria but all the people and all the interests involved in the decision making process,” said Morrisey. “If you’re in the room throughout the entirety of the process, but then you take a walk at the end, we have to asl ourselves if that is the right type of process. We are going to learn all of this through the investigative process.”

Morrisey and McCuskey hope to learn more about the process of selections and hope the NCAA will work with them in providing information about why the Mountaineers were not chosen.

“What we are asking for is a level of detail and a level of transparency and a level of accountability so that teams like West Virginia can plan in the future and say what are we supposed to do to get into the tournament,” McCuskey said.

Morrisey made it clear he will continue to stand behind West Virginia, Marshall and other in-state schools. The two hope to find answers right away for how to build a schedule, roster, and team to ensure they have the best chances at making the tournament in following seasons.
