After another exciting week of Big 12 baseball, standings have been updated as 12 teams look to find a spot in the 2025 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship.
Still in first place, the West Virginia Mountaineers have maintained their 14-game win streak while having the best win percentage in college baseball at 34-4 overall and 13-3 in conference. The Mountaineers took on Marshall in Huntington for a one-game series to start the week. After a back-and-forth game, redshirt junior Chase Swai stole home in the ninth inning to get the Mountaineers the 5-4 victory. West Virginia then headed home for a three-game series against the 21-18 Cincinnati Bearcats. The Mountaineers were able to hold off the Bearcats and ended up sweeping the series, winning 3-2, 6-4, and 10-5. Steve Sabins’s squad still sits No. 1 in the Big 12.Â
Taking the No. 2 spot in the standings is the Kansas Jayhawks. The Jayhawks have an overall record of 31-10 and a conference record of 12-6. They started the week by playing Wichita State at home, winning 18-12. Right fielder Jackson Hauge had an impressive night, going 4-6 at the plate with four RBIs and a home run. The Jayhawks then stayed home to play conference opponent Kansas State. Kansas State came into the game sitting at No. 4 in the Big 12 standings while Kansas was No. 5. Kansas was able to hold off its in-state rival and ended up sweeping them in the series. This advanced them to No. 2 in the Big 12 standings.Â
Still sitting in the No. 3 spot is the Arizona Wildcats. The Wildcats started their week off with a 10-run rule victory against Grand Canyon University after Garen Caulfied put the score at 14-4 with a sacrifice fly out in the seventh inning. Their next series came against conference opponent BYU in Provo. Arizona went 2-1 in the series, losing their first game 5-12. This was enough to maintain their spot in the standings with TCU dropping from No. 2 to No. 4 after losing three games this week.
