BYU continued the scoring with a fly-out in the sixth inning, and another two-RBI single by Luke Anderson in the seventh inning made the Cougars lead 11-4.
The scoring did not stop there for BYU. Another two-run double by Parker Goff in the eighth inning made the lead 14-4 Cougars.
West Virginia had one more chance at bat to make a comeback and wasn’t able to do so. An RBI double by Ben Lumsden brought in one run, but the Mountaineers still lost by a score of 14-5.
Every facet of the game was not clicking for West Virginia last night. The pitching gave up 14 hits and 14 earned runs while the lineup could not get on base after the third inning.
The Mountaineers will need to bounce back quickly. They will face BYU in the second game of the series today at 8:30 p.m. ET.
