Tuesday evening, West Virginia took on Marshall at Kendrick Family Ballpark for their first of three meetings this season.
The Mountaineers were able to pick up their 20th win of the season in a dominating victory. West Virginia moved to 20-3 on the season and the Thundering Herd are now 12-13.
Skylar King got the Mountaineers on the board right away with a sacrifice flyout in the bottom of the first inning making the game 1-0.
In the bottom of the second, Chase Swain stepped up to the plate and knocked out his second home run of the season making the game 2-0, Mountaineers. The redshirt junior had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored in the win.
King kept his day going with an RBI single in the bottom of the third. King then stole second, allowing Jace Rinehart to score.
Swain and Armani Guzman both had RBI singles to finish up the bottom of the third. After an offensive inning, the score was now 6-0 West Virginia.
In the bottom of the eighth, Gavin Kelly had a RBI single to make the game 7-0. This would be the final score of the game.
Freshman David Hagen led the Mountaineers on the mound with 4.0 scoreless innings, allowing only one hit.
Tyler Hutson, Mac Stiffler, Robby Porco, Bryant Yoak and Ben McDougal came in to relieve Hagen for a combined shutout.
The Mountaineers look forward as they travel to Provo, Utah to take on Big 12 opponent BYU in a three-game series.Â
