After finishing the regular season 24-7, West Virginia women’s basketball ranked No. 15 in the WBCA Coaches Poll and No. 16 in the AP Poll.
This marks the second time in program history that West Virginia women’s basketball has been ranked in all 20 weeks of the weekly polls during the regular season. The only other season the Mountaineers accomplished this was 2007-08, finishing 25-8 under Mike Carey. West Virginia finished No. 17 in the AP Poll this year.
This year’s historic season was led by guard, JJ Quinerly, who averaged 20.6 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Quinerly was named an AP All-American Honorable Mention for the second straight season and was also named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. Quinerly shared the backcourt with guard Jordan Harrison who put up an impressive 13.5 points a game, and 4.5 assists a game.
Forward Kyah Watson led the Mountaineers in rebounds, averaging 7.5 a game.
The Mountaineers are heading into the NCAA Tournament as a No. 6 seed as they are set to face the winner of Columbia (23-6) and Washington (19-13) in Chapel Hill on Saturday.
