The No. 18 ranked West Virginia Mountaineers women’s basketball team finished the 2024-2025 season at home with a perfect 16-0 record at the Coliseum as JJ Quinerly dominated in a 75-46 win over Utah, setting a new career high in what’s likely her final home game.
In the first quarter, the Mountaineers got off to a strong start, ending the quarter with a 13-5 lead. WVU only shot 33% from the field and 25% from the three-point line but were able to force six Utah turnovers, leading to four of their 13 first-quarter points. Kyah Watson and Sydney Woodley led the team in points in the quarter with three each.
In the second half, WVU was able to build off their early lead going into the half up 30-18. JJ Quinerly dominated in the second quarter and scored 12 of the team’s 17 second-quarter points to bring her total for the game up to 12. Once again, in the second quarter, the Mountaineers defense put immense pressure on the Utes, forcing another six turnovers.
Coming out of the half, WVU was able to sustain the lead they brought into the locker room at half after another dominant quarter from Quinerly, who had 15 points in the quarter. WVU led 69-43 heading into the final quarter.
Through three quarters, JJ Quinerly had 29 points, just four off of tying her career high.
In the fourth, WVU pulled away, outscoring Utah by a score of 24-10 in the fourth quarter. JJ Quinerly, just four points away from setting a new career high, finished the game with 38, surpassing her previous high of 33 in what is likely to be her final home game in Morgantown to lead the team to a 75-46 win over Utah.
WVU finished the season at home with a perfect 16-0 home record for the first time since the 2009-2010 season when they finished 14-0. 16 home wins is the most in a season in the program’s history.
The Mountaineers will be back in action on Saturday, Mar. 1st, at 2:00 pm EST in Cincinnati for the season finale.
