Mark Kellogg joined the Mountaineer Sports Network live from Kegler’s Sports Bar and Grille Monday evening to discuss the ending of his second season with West Virginia and what his team looks like headed into March. The show is hosted by Andrew Caridi.
While the team looks to make an appearance in the NCAA Tournament, Kellogg shared that the final in-conference games are still meaningful as they determine standings and home-court hosting for the post-season.
“So we are close to March, and this is the fun time of basketball,” Kellogg said. “And we’ll have some meaningful ones coming up, obviously, this week and then as we continue into March.”
West Virginia recently suffered a tough loss to No. 10 TCU with a score gap of over 20. Kellogg shared his team just lost their momentum following the first few minutes. He acknowledged the Horned Frogs have players with experience and referred to them as “professionals.”
“Well, we haven’t had a clunker since I’ve been here and we had a clunker,” Kellogg said. “I really don’t remember the last time that we lost by 20 plus points.”
The Mountaineers are set to face Utah tomorrow evening in the Coliseum. This will mark their final game at home before they round out the season at Cincinnati.
West Virginia looks to secure wins over its last two opponents with hopes to be seeded in the top four of the Big 12 with a double bye headed into the playoff season.
