Off to a quick start, WVU’s center fielder Skylar King started his season batting .600 with five RBIs and a clutch home run.
King was the biggest contributor offensively for the Mountaineers this weekend in Jacksonville and helped them to a 3-0 start.
King especially made his presence known during game one of the double-header on Saturday, going 3-4 with three RBIs and an impressive opposite-field triple.
In game two of the double-header, King followed up going 2-3 and won it for the Mountaineers with a go-ahead two run home run in the top of the fourth.
During a media session on Monday, head coach Steve Sabins was asked about King’s hot start and what improvements he has made since last year.
“That is the definition of Skylar King, he’s just gotten better,” Sabins said. “His biggest adjustment by far has been his approach.”
Sabins went on to compliment King’s triple against a tough, down and away changeup. “You have to be in such a good place physically and mentally to hit a ball like that.”
Last season, King was a solid contributor to the lineup playing in 58 games and batting .258 with 26 RBIs.
King looks to carry this type of performance throughout the season for the Mountaineers on their road to Omaha.
