The WVU women’s basketball team picked up a massive win over No. 12 Kansas State. JJ Quinerly and Jordan Harrison talked postgame about what the game meant to the team.
The Mountaineers continued their winning streak at home, extending the streak to 15 wins in a row at home. WVU was able to beat a Kansas State team that was ranked No. 12 in the country and sat at top of the Big 12 standings.
The Mountaineers once again were able to control the game by playing dominant defense forcing 21 turnovers by Kansas State.
“I think just over time the pressure kind of just wore them out, so I think that’s what it was mainly,
We just kept coming at them the whole game, and they eventually just started making mistakes,” Harrison said.
The Mountaineers also performed on the offensive end, emphasizing getting to the basket, shooting 42% from the field and led by another 20-point performance from JJ Quinerly, who had 26, and Jordan Harrison, who dropped 18.
“I didn’t want them forcing me into too many threes, so I kept that mindset of keep attacking,” Harrison said after the game.
The Mountaineers tried out a new offensive game plan in the second half to try and get JJ Quinerly in more space to get open shots near the basket.
“We didn’t really work on it. I just saw a lot of space, and when I see space, my eyes get wide,” Quinerly said.
The Mountaineers have picked up their biggest win of the season so far, taking down the top team in the Big 12 as the season winds down, giving the team a massive boost of confidence.
“I think the whole team is just excited. We were all in there cheering. Coach walked in, and we kind of drenched him with water, everyone git drenched, all the coaches,” Quinerly said
“I think it definitely gives us a lot of confidence. We know that we’re a good team; it’s just making sure we translate how we play here on the road. I think that this win gives us a lot of confidence, and as long as we got each other, I think we’ll be fine,” Harrison said about the team’s confidence after the game.
West Virginia will take on another ranked team in the Big 12 as they travel to Fort Worth, Texas, for a matchup against No. 10 TCU Sunday, Feb. 23rd, at Noon. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
