WVU picked up a dominant 69-50 win over Cincinnati on senior day as JJ Quinerly led the team offensively with 29 points.
In the first quarter, the Mountaineers got off to a fast start shooting 38.9% from the field, and forced eight first-quarter turnovers. Jordan Harrison led the team in points in that first quarter with six. WVU finished the first quarter on a 12-2 run that spanned over the last 8:36 of the quarter.
In the second quarter, the Mountaineers were outscored 14-13 and were led by JJ Quinerly, who had six points to bring her total to 10 before the half. Cincinnati had a rough quarter shooting the ball in the second, shooting just 30% from the field and turning the ball over another six times. In that first half, WVU shot 39.4% from the field, leading to a 27-21 advantage going into the half.
In the third quarter, JJ Quinerly led the team with 10 points, bringing her game total to 20. The Mountaineers began to pull away in the third quarter, scoring 22 team points to Cincinnati’s 11. The Mountaineers defense forced another five turnovers in the third.
WVU began the fourth quarter with a 49-32 lead and forced 19 turnovers. JJ Quinerly once again led the team in points in the fourth quarter and brought her total to 29, which led the game and was four points shy of her career-high of 33. The Mountaineers were able to close out this one by a score of 69-50, improving their season record to 20-5 and remain unbeaten at the WVU Coliseum.
The team will stay home for their next matchup with No. 14 Kansas State in the team’s gold rush game on Monday, Feb. 17th, at 2:00 pm EST. The game will be televised on FOX.
