Craig Smith praises West Virginia’s game environment

The Mountaineers defeated Utah at home during the Coal Rush game Saturday evening. The event consisted of the first-ever WVU Coliseum LED wristband light show. Utah head coach Craig Smith had nothing but praise for the electric environment.

“When you turn the TV on, if you see (a WVU) game, it’s hard to turn the channel. You can feel the atmosphere through the screen,” Smith said. “This is my first time as a coach participating in a game in that arena and it’s a cool vibe, it’s a special vibe in here and you can feel that.”

Saturday’s matchup marked Utah’s sixth road game in league play. Smith shared that while travel may be difficult, especially with time changes, it is something every team deals with multiple times during their season.

“You got to go out and compete, figure it out,” Smith said. “You get to play college basketball, you get to coach college basketball. We were in an amazing environment tonight.”

Smith shared he was proud of his young team for performing the way they did against a tough West Virginia team in a sold-out environment.

The Mountaineers will host BYU at home Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. EST.
