After West Virginia’s 73-46 win vs. Colorado, head coach Mark Kellogg emphasized the importance of the win.
“We needed that one. We needed to bounce back. I would have been worried if we didn’t. Coming off a loss and playing the team that had already beat us. And we were at home,” Kellogg said.
The team had just recently suffered their third loss of the season to the hands of Oklahoma State, and Kellogg made it clear that he was not happy with his team this past week.
They responded by holding a Colorado team that averages almost 80 points per game to 46 points. They also got their offense rolling, with four starters in double digits.
“There were times we executed better, and that’s been one of my gripes, that we haven’t executed in the halfcourt,” Kellogg said.
The longer offensive possessions leading to points for the Mountaineers never allowed the Buffaloes to get going.
The team has had its ups and downs this year and is still waiting for that signature win, but Kellogg believes this was a step in the right direction. They are staying home this week, playing an Iowa State team on Sunday currently on a three-game win streak.
