WVU Keeps Chris Haering as a Special Team’s Assistant

WVU will retain Chris Haering, who will serve as a special teams assistant on Rich Rodriguez’s staff.

Haering is entering his second season serving as a special teams assistant for the Mountaineers. In his first season in 2024, the Mountaineers kickoff return defense was ranked No. 12 out of all the power four teams, and the kickoff return unit was ranked No. 17.

Haering came to WVU from the University of Wisconsin where he was a linebackers coach for eight seasons.

Haering played linebacker at WVU from 1986-1899 and was a key piece of the team that played Notre Dame in the National Championship in 1988. He currently ranks No. 6 in program history in assisted tackles and No. 11 in total tackles.
