Senior quarterback Garrett Greene concluded his career at WVU in impressive fashion against Memphis.
Kicking off college football’s bowl season in the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl on Dec. 17, Greene led West Virginia in its final game before the return of head coach Rich Rodriguez to Morgantown. In doing so, he put a cap on his own time at WVU, as well as the six-year era of Neal Brown.
With Brown dismissed from the university on the first of the month, Greene and the Mountaineers played under offensive coordinator Chad Scott in Frisco, Texas. Scott will return on Rodriguez’s staff as the running backs coach in 2025.
Under Scott, Greene put on a show, throwing 29-for-40 for 328 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception and rushing for 95 yards and a touchdown in seven carries. Thanks to Greene, WVU nearly took down the No. 25 Tigers, falling 42-37.
With all of the non-playoff bowl games in the books, Greene is finally getting national recognition for his performance. PFF College released its rankings of the top bowl game efforts this year, and behind Miami RB Damien Martinez and Alabama defensive lineman Tim Smith, Greene ranked third with a grade of 90.8.
Greene ended his WVU Football career with the performance and will enter the 2025 NFL Draft as a running back.
