No. 13 West Virginia Earns Fifth Straight Win With Victory Over Bowling Green

The No. 13-ranked West Virginia women’s basketball team defeated Bowling Green 78-47 on Tuesday, winning their fifth straight game to begin their 2024-2025 campaign.

In all of their victories, West Virginia defeated their opponent by 20+ points and forced 20 or more turnovers.

Jordan Harrison led all scorers with 20 points, shooting seven-of-14 from the floor. She also had four assists and two rebounds.

Celia Riviere and JJ Quinerly also finished with double-digit points. Riviere had 11 and Quinerly had 14.

The teams traded baskets in the early going, with a score of 4-4 in the first two minutes. With the Mountaineers playing their signature suffocating defense, Bowling Green called a timeout less than three minutes into the contest.

Both teams continued to shoot well, but WVU forced a slew of turnovers, which allowed them to start building a lead. Bowling Green didn’t back down, however, cutting the deficit and tying the game at 13.

At the end of the first quarter, West Virginia led 18-15. Bowling Green began to cool down shooting-wise in the second quarter as WVU started to build a solid lead. They led by double-digits with less than four minutes to play in the first half.

At halftime, the Mountaineers led 37-19. They forced 14 turnovers in the first half and held BGU to just four points in the second quarter.

The second half began with both teams going back and forth. WVU’s Sydney Shaw was ejected at the 7:15 mark in the second half after committing a disqualifying foul.

Around the halfway point of the third quarter, the Mountaineers went on an 11-0 run, increasing their lead to over 20 points. At the end of the third quarter, WVU led 55-35.

West Virginia looked to close out their fifth-straight victory to begin the season. The Mountaineers went on another run, and soon, their lead grew to 30.

With less than four minutes to play, while West Virginia was on a 15-2 run, the Mountaineers began to sub out starters as they held a comfortable lead.

WVU closed out the game successfully, winning 78-47.

West Virginia will host Lafayette on Friday night in their next contest.
