Looking to win their third straight game, West Virginia hosts Baylor on Saturday.
WVU is coming off a 31-24 win over Cincinnati, in which their defense scored two touchdowns to help propel them to victory. Defensive coordinator Jeff Koonz spoke about what he sees from Baylor’s offense ahead of Saturday’s matchup.
Baylor’s passing attack starts with Josh Cameron. The junior receiver leads the team in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns.
“He’s strong, he’s fast. He’s strong with the ball in his hands. He’s a hard tackle. He’s really improved his awareness of space, and you can just see that on tape. He’s a really good football player,” Koonz said of Cameron.
Junior quarterback Sawyer Robertson has also had himself a nice season. He’s thrown for nearly 1,800 yards and 17 touchdowns while rushing for 257 yards and four touchdowns.
“He’s operating at a really high level right now,” Koonz said of Robertson. “He’s got undeniable arm talent, so he can make all the throws. And he’s getting a lot of confidence and over the last three weeks now he’s playing like a confident player. And over the last three weeks I mean they’re they’re playing offensively as good as anybody in this league. He’s a big part of the reason why.”
The Bears are coming off of a bye week after winning three straight games. Koonz reiterated how well they’re playing and what he believes has made them successful.
” They’ve got a really good setup right now on offense. They’re playing at a really high level. They’ve figured out the last three weeks what works for them and that’s the biggest thing. So, they’ve got a really good idea of who they are fundamentally,” Koonz said of Baylor. “They’re going to be very well coached. They’re very smart people, they’re going to have things that they’ve set up. They’re going to have compliments off of that. And that going into this game, so it’s a great challenge for our coaches and our players.”
Saturday’s game will be televised on ESPN2 with kickoff set for 4:00 p.m. EST.
