During his press conference on Friday, West Virginia men’s basketball head coach Darian DeVries mentioned that senior guard Jayden Stone suffered an upper-body injury and will be out for some time.
Stone, like the majority of the roster, transferred to WVU this offseason. He spent the last two seasons at Detroit Mercy after beginning his collegiate career at Grand Canyon.
“Jayden Stone will be out for a period of time, we’ll see how long that is with a kind of upper-body injury,” DeVries. “So that’ll be kind of day-to-day as we move forward.”
While Detroit Mercy did not have a successful season last year, Stone did. He was one of 35 NCAA DI men’s basketball players to average over 20 points per game last season, averaging 20.8 ppg.
In West Virginia’s exhibition against UCharleston (DII), Stone came off the bench and scored two points in 19 minutes, shooting one-of-five from the field. He had four rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Stone is not expected to play in the Mountaineers season-opener against Robert Morris. The extent of his injury and when exactly he’ll return are currently unknown.
