Looking Ahead: West Virginia’s Remaining Opponents

As the 2024 college football season approaches its final stretch, WVU has four more games after their current and final bye week.

The Mountaineers have had a roller coaster of a season, to say the least. They are currently .500 4-4 (3-2 in Big 12).

They have the opportunity to turn their season around in their final four games, but it will be no easy task. Let’s take a look at their remaining opponents.

Cincinnati

WVU will take on the Bearcats on the road next week. UC is 5-3 overall and has the same conference record as West Virginia. They are also on a bye week, coming off a 34-23 loss to Colorado. Similar to WVU, Cincinnati suffered a narrow, late loss to Pitt earlier in the season. Their total offense ranks No. 30 among FBS teams, and their total defense ranks No. 105 this season.

Baylor

West Virginia hosts Baylor the following week on Nov. 16. Baylor is 4-4 on the season (2-3 in conference play). They’ve won back-to-back games after losing three straight to open Big 12 play. They’ll host TCU on Saturday. Their total offense ranks No. 51 and their total defense ranks No. 67.

UCF

The Mountaineers host UCF in their last home game of the season on Nov. 23. After a promising 3-0 start to the season, the Knights have dropped five in a row. They put up a fight with Iowa State on the road, however, but lost in the late stages 38-35. They host Arizona this week, whom West Virginia just defeated in their last contest. UCF’s total offense ranks No. 19, and total defense ranks No. 80.

Texas Tech

WVU’s last regular season game is on the road against Texas Tech on Nov. 30. The Red Raiders are 5-3 this season (3-2 in conference play). They are coming off of a heart-breaking 35-34 loss to TCU. They’ll play No. 9-ranked Iowa State on the road this week. Their total offense ranks as one of the best in the country at No. 17, but their total defense ranks as one of the worst 10 in the country at No. 126.
