WVU Defensive Coordinator Jordan Lesley took time during his Monday media availability to answer questions about the Arizona offense and what different challenges they present to the WVU defense. He also was asked about protected top-10 pick, wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan.
“He’s as good as anyone in the country, he’s as good as anyone we will see. You’re not just going to take a player out of the game.”
McMillan stands at 6-foot-5, weighs 215 pounds and has been on a tear showcasing his talents this season. In the first game of the year, the WR put up 304 yards with 10 catches and four touchdowns.
While the numbers have started to drift away as the Arizona offense has fallen flat, McMillan is still protected to fall inside the top-10 picks in the upcoming 2025 draft. Lesley says it’s more than numbers that make the receiver special.
“Just the fundamentals of playing receiver I think he’s done as good as anybody I’ve seen in a while.”
On the year, McMillan has 47 catches for 780 yards and four touchdowns.
As for the Arizona offense as a whole, they are led by redshirt Sophomore Noah Fifita who has not quite lived up to the hype produced from his season a year prior. With nine touchdowns to 10 interceptions on the year, Arizona has not stopped slinging the rock.
Lesley was asked what offense the team has faced this season that could compare to Arizona and the DC could not think of one so unique.
“On our schedule, I don’t know. They’re a lot different than anyone we’ve played. Just the style of offense, I mean you get a lot of the same concepts that are redundant when throwing the ball no matter who you play that kind of show up. But how they get to it, we haven’t really played someone like that.”
The Mountaineers will travel to Tucson, AZ to take on the Wildcats for the first time in Big 12 play for a 7:00 p.m. ET kickoff. The game can be viewed on FS1.
