Multiple Mountaineers were injured in Saturday’s dominating Kansas State win, including three key offensive players.
Coming out of halftime, it was announced that Garrett Greene, Jahiem White and Wyatt Milum would not be returning to the field for the remainder of the game due to injuries. WVU head coach Neal Brown opened his postgame press conference by acknowledging how “beat up” his team was in the defeat.
“We got a beat-up locker room. Probably the most injuries I can remember in a first half,” Brown said.
West Virginia had a chance to tie the game in the second quarter but failed to capitalize on a missed opportunity. They trailed by just a touchdown, 17-10, going into halftime before the Wildcats completely took over in the second half.
Brown explained the severity of the injuries and what they most likely are.
“Just rash of head injuries really,” Brown said. “Four of them in total, and I didn’t get the, I didn’t talk to Vince, our trainer, because he was so busy after the game. (I) try to talk to him usually before I come up here, but he was tied up. But yeah four of them (head injuries) at least.”
Milum exited the game in the second quarter replaced by Johnny Williams, but Greene and White’s injuries were not known until they got in the locker room.
“Wyatt (Milum) didn’t play that entire last series and he’s our best guy up front he’s our leader on offense, he’s an elite player. So, he didn’t play that last drive. So I knew him, but I did not know Jahiem (White) and Garrett (Greene)until we got into the locker room,” Brown said.
More updates are expected by Monday. West Virginia will be on the road next week, facing Arizona, the new Big 12 opponent, on Saturday.
